After having presented you the ideal essential oils to sleep well, my anti-stress selection and the essential oils to boost your immune system, it was time to tackle my favourite subject (despite myself): essential oils, indispensable for any good sportsman, to have in his bathroom as a matter of urgency!
Sprain, sprain, ligament strain, which essential oils should be applied?
What do sprains, strains or strains have in common? Apart from that little grin of despair when you realise that you're doing well ...
A sprain is a trauma to the ligaments caused by excessive mobilization of a joint. It's a stretching or tearing of the ligament*, the tissue that connects the bones in the joints.
A sprain is a benign sprain caused by a stretch or tear in the muscle or tendon (the tissue that connects the muscle to the bone).
Muscle strain or muscle elongation occurs when muscle fibres are damaged due to overstretching or tearing. A muscle strain can also involve damage to tendons, which are an integral part of the muscles. Sprains occur as a result of overstretching a muscle under excessive strain.
Sprain, sprain or ligament strain: in all cases, 2 essential oils are essential to save your life:
- Italian helichrysum essential oil
- The essential oil of Katrafay
You can use them pure (they are not dermocaustic) in local application, putting 3 to 4 drops of essential oil 3 to 4 times a day until healing. You can also mix a few drops in clay.
Or you can play little chemists and compose a synergy composed of :
- Italian helichrysum essential oil
- Katrafay essential oil
- The essential oil of peppermint
- Lemon eucalyptus essential oil
You can also use them purecette synergy in local application, putting 3 to 4 drops of the mixture 3 to 4 times a day until healing. You can also mix a few drops in clay.
Precautions for use: Carry out a skin test before application - Do not apply undiluted over a large area - Not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women, children under 6 years old, epileptics or people with neurological disorders.
Essential oils to treat tendinitis and epicondylitis (tennis elbow, golf elbow)
Tendinitis, as the name suggests, is the inflammation of a tendon (the band connecting a muscle to a bone). Tendons are a kind of "cord" made up of collagen fibres that attach muscles to bones. It can occur on any tendon, but obviously mainly on those we overstrain.
Epicondylitis of the elbow can appear during any activity where the hand has to grasp an object permanently while the elbow is in flexion. These movements can overload the extensor tendons in the elbow, which can then lead to inflammation and pain.
In both cases there is therefore inflammation. We will therefore focus on anti-inflammatory essential oils to relieve tendonitis or epicondylitis.
Essential oils of choice :
- essential oil of lemon eucalyptus, to be diluted at 50%.
- essential oil of wintergreen, anti-inflammatory and analgesic
Be careful to dilute these essential oils well in a vegetable oil, ideally Arnica or Millerpertuis vegetable oil. To do this, pour 4 drops of the selected essential oil into 3 to 4 drops of vegetable oil. And apply 3 to 4 times a day until you feel better.
